Moving into Miami Monday Only to Evacuate Tuesday!

By Anaïs Monique on September 6, 2017September 6, 2017

I’ve lived in Miami for all of 5 minutes and it’s time to evacuate. So here I am, sitting in a Tallahassee airport at 3am writing about Miami instead of enjoying it. And of course I can’t think about Miami without thinking about my time in Cuba. [click the link for more]

Cant eat out everyday bc of the way my account is setup and ofc bc of #summertimefinegoals . 💋🇫🇷 But thk God theres a tiny market that sells fresh produce, baguettes, delicious microwave items, jams, snacks and most importantly wine! 24hr layover of meals and drinks in Roissey €22. 😍 I wish our convenience stores were more like thiiiis. #parisinspring #traveljournal
Officially picnic season. 🌼❤️ I totally had a full entire Piedmont Park moment while rolling around in Roissey. Dare i say that i miss the midtown ATL vibe? 🚮♻️🌍 In honor of #earthday i promise going fwd, i will adopt the practice to pick up at least 3 pieces of trash at any park or beach i sit down to enjoy. 🌹🌳 Nature gives me all types of peace and helps me remember God is real. Theres magic in all around us.
His timing, His plan, His purpose... although difficult to understand in the moment... is always perfect. Thank you, God, for not giving me what i wanted. Thank you instead for preparing me for what i was destined to have.
#bts Photo 1: always alwayssss ALWAYS wanted to come here. Taking our seat at dinner, no more than 100ft from the Pantheon, my 8yr old self shot out of my chair while everyone else figured out their orders at the outdoor table. My boots pounded the cobblestones as i craned my neck up to the tallest concrete dome in the world since 113AD. I almost hurt my hands slapping the columns, ensuring they were as solid as theyd appeared in Art History class. It was after hours, the incredible doors firmly shut. What was once a temple to the gods, and recommissioned a Catholic church, was now the scene for a grainy selfie my younger self would be so proud of.... posted up on the floor like the #artheaux i am, sending God a lil prayer of gratitude. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 #bts Photo 2: After dinner and winding through Roman alleyways, we came over a bridge that led us directly into the midst of what looked like a protest but was really a celebratory chant of 100s of futbol fans. Again, i rannnn toward the excitement (i honestly need a lease when i’m in tourist mode) and was met by cheers and flying beer bottles. On the stone steps, we congratulated each other on what a lucky way to end a great day, not realizing, it was only the beginning of another crazy story. #crewlove #falife #roma
“Ew i wasnt readyyy.” #crewlove #layoverfun
Roma 🇮🇹 Only 32hrs there, But 56hrs of recovery later... ❤️❤️❤️ cant wait to return. #roamtheplanet #layoverfun
...specifically, to be a Descendant of survivors of the Transatlantic Slave-Trade. #blackgirlmagic #drippin
• T E L L • I T • Today, i told my mom what happened to me. Today, (technically yesterday) I finally did what i was MOST afraid, maybe ever, to do. My heart races as write this, but there’s no healing in hiding. • You know those dramatic angry film scenes where a guy is hitting his chest, yelling in the mirror, spittle flying with his rage... i had the crying version, but it turned off and on like a faucet. One of those with maximum pressure, off and on, off and on again until I literally dropped to my knees in surrender to God, begging for strength. I come from a long line of resilient women, but who wants to intentionally hurt their mother? • For actual decades, i hid it bc i just didnt want to add to her list of parental regret. She has always been a phenom-mom especially today when it really counted... and i thank God for the beautiful love ❤️ she showed me. No judgment for what happened to me, just compassion... and saddened that i had to carry it alone. • Big relief now, but hunnyyy, those few minutes before i called.... pssssh some of the scariest of my life. • “Those who dont understand a painful silence will never really understand your words.” Someone else wrote that quote lol, but i couldnt agree with it more. Allowing hard truths to finally surface becomes so complicated years later. But it doesnt make it any less true, no, millions of women arent lying. Its certainly no less painful and unfortunately no less common. Remember, theres no healing in hiding. Tell it: to a counselor, a parent, a friend, to the whole damn internet if you want to, just tell it. ❤️ily mommy #metoo #inhaleexhale #myalbumcover 😉
I still remember the first time i heard Phenomenal Woman recited in Poetic Justice. The effect was profound my 9 year old self (who really wasnt supposed to be watching such a mature film) and welcomed me to think of my potential womanhood as phase of life filled with great confidence. It also showed me the power of words. Thereafter when i would write poetry, it was influenced by her ease of having a spirited conversation or telling a vivid story thru stanzas or rhythm and rhyme. ・・・ The glorious Dr. Maya Angelou would have been 90 yesterday. She told the story many times of how she avoided celebrating her birthday after her friend, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated on her 40th birthday in 1968. Instead, she and her friend, Coretta Scott King, would “meet or talk or send each other flowers.” In this clip, Dr. Angelou is reciting her poem, "Weekend Glory" in 1987 at the Lewisham Theater in South London. #MayaAngelou #rp #vintageblackglamour
Enjoying the view with mi prima and working on this FUPA. #joshuatrees
When someone offers me something fried or sugary, i’m like “but SUMMER tho 😩 i cant.” But still living for my carbs! #nomnom #powergirl #joshuatrees
People that veer away from norms have been choosing to be social outcasts for centuries. They push the narrative forward. Concepts like Pro-Africanism, Veganism, Sexual Fluidity, Social/ Economic equality, Meditation/ Yoga/ Self- Love, and Natural healing are not new ...but its so exciting to be apart of a generation THIRSTY to latch onto such important ideas, truly changing their lives and the direction of our world! @arisphere @akosohu @erykahbadu @ms_laurynhill @jsecretretreat @chakabars @fluffmcduff @childishgambino #influencers #consciousliving
