That Time I Was Going to Rio, But then Didnt

Summer of 2016 was a beautiful celebration of Black girl magic being awarded medals for their excellence in swimming, gymnastics, tennis, hurdles, shot put, long jump… you name it and Black girls dominated! Those are some nasty gals for ya! With all the excitement surrounding the games, Brazil was kind enough to open up its visa restrictions to US Americans that summer. Come one, come all! So when a friend invites you along on her trip to Rio and you actually have the time off, YOU GO! I did, so I was going! ….Or so I foolishly thought. View the 90 second clip from that day, below.

I missed the open visa cut-off date by not even 2 weeks! πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

It wasnt only that I was no longer going to Rio, it was that I had packed, came straight from another trip out of Dallas to make it to this one and I hadn’t gone through Travel Checklist 101! Do you have all of your documents in order?Β Nope. I surely did not. I had my selfie-stick though, I had that! I even picked out the sites I wanted to visit: that colorful staircase and a mom-n-pop restaurant nearby, scenic cliffs for photos, a palace-like garden, and I was definitely going to see Hay-sooos (aka Jesus)! Its one of those situations where you just have to laugh at your incredibly stupid mistakes and try to get back home, which thankfully, I did.

Thanks for joining me!
